Nio Expands to Uzbekistan: First Store Opens in Tashkent! | EV Market Growth (2026)

Nio's Central Asian Expansion: A New Chapter in the Electric Vehicle Market

Nio Inc., the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) pioneer, has made a bold move by entering the Uzbekistan market, marking its first foray into Central Asia. This strategic expansion is part of the company's global growth strategy, as it continues to solidify its position in the international EV market.

A Strategic Partnership in Uzbekistan
Nio has partnered with Abu Sahiy Motors, a leading Uzbek group with a strong presence in logistics, real estate, and automotive sales and services. This collaboration will enable Nio to offer its vehicles under its main brand and sub-brand, Onvo, to Uzbek consumers.

Expanding Horizons
The opening of Nio Space Tashkent signifies Nio's official entry into the Central Asian automotive market. Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of Nio, shared this milestone on his WeChat status, hinting at a grand opening on January 31, 2026.

A Record-Breaking Export
Nio's global presence is further strengthened by its record-breaking export of 750 vehicles in December 2025, a 79.00% increase from November. This achievement highlights the company's growing popularity and demand for its electric vehicles worldwide.

Diverse Model Portfolio
Nio will introduce its popular models, including the ES8, ES6, ET5, ET5 Touring, and the L60 from the Onvo sub-brand, in Uzbekistan. It's worth noting that the ES8 and ES6 were renamed EL8 and EL6, respectively, for overseas markets due to trademark disputes with Audi.

Recent Overseas Milestones
This move to Uzbekistan is just one of several recent international expansions. In January, Nio debuted its Firefly EV in Singapore, marking its first right-hand-drive model in overseas markets. Additionally, the company opened its first dealership in Hungary, further solidifying its European presence.

Adapting to Global Markets
Nio's initial overseas expansion strategy focused on direct sales, but challenges led to a shift towards a more asset-light model, relying on national distributors. The company aims to appoint one general distributor per country, ensuring a strong local presence and efficient distribution network.

Future Plans
Looking ahead, Nio is set to launch its Firefly-branded vehicles in Thailand in March, further expanding its global footprint. This strategic approach to market entry and distribution is shaping Nio's journey towards becoming a leading global electric vehicle brand.
